Preparing for an End of Tenancy Clean

What landlords, agents and outgoing tenants each need to prepare so a handover clean actually protects everyone's position.

An end of tenancy clean is a documentation exercise as much as a cleaning one. The clean protects a deposit or a dilapidations position only if it is evidenced.

Before the visit: remove all belongings, defrost appliances, ensure utilities are live, and share the original inventory so the clean can be scoped against the standard it will be judged on.

During the visit, the priority order is kitchen, washrooms, floors, then internal glass and joinery. These are the areas inventory clerks photograph first.

After the visit, insist on a photographic completion pack. It is the single most useful document in any later dispute, and it takes a competent contractor minutes to produce.
