The Commercial Cleaning Checklist Every Facilities Manager Should Own

A practical framework for daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly tasks, and how to turn it into a specification suppliers can be measured against.

Most cleaning disputes are not really about cleaning. They are about an unwritten expectation meeting an unwritten scope. A checklist solves that by making the standard explicit before anyone disagrees about it.

Split tasks by frequency rather than by room. Daily items cover touchpoints, floors, washrooms and waste. Weekly items cover internal glass, skirtings and detail work. Monthly and quarterly items cover high-level dusting, floor restoration and appliance interiors.

Once frequencies are agreed, attach a measurable outcome to each line. 'Clean kitchen' is unenforceable. 'Worktops clear and sanitised, sink dry, dishwasher emptied and restacked' is auditable by anyone walking past.

Finally, decide who audits and how often. A monthly walkaround with photographs against the checklist keeps standards honest and gives your supplier something concrete to improve.
