How Often Should Offices Be Cleaned?
Frequency should follow occupancy, not habit. Here is how to size a schedule around how your building is genuinely used.
Hybrid working changed the maths. A five-day cleaning schedule on a building that is busy Tuesday to Thursday is spending money on empty desks, while Wednesday washrooms are under-serviced.
Start with occupancy data. Access control or booking figures usually reveal a clear pattern within a fortnight. Match your heaviest cleaning presence to your heaviest days.
Washrooms are the exception. They need daily attention regardless of headcount, because perception of hygiene there shapes perception of the whole building.
A sensible starting point for a hybrid office: full service on peak days, lighter presence on quiet days, daily washroom servicing, and a quarterly deep clean to reset the areas daily work cannot reach.
